RockBox Rocks my iBox!
23. October 2007 05:10

So guess what that picture is of? It's of my iPod Video running Linux, skinned to match Vista Media Player :)

Not only can I play MP3 and videos, I can play OGG Vorbis and FLAC on my ipod now.

Rockbox is a SUPER easy install on a huge variety of media players. It's best supported on this iPod video, but also works on other ipods, sansa devices, archos, etc.

What does this have to do with Sharepoint? Well, at least when clients ask why I'm carrying an iPod instead of a Zune, I can show that I'm not really supporting Apple either :)

SQL Reporting Services - Multi-value Parameter Default Values Not Working
19. October 2007 06:22

Today I was having a terrible time with SQL reporting services default values for a multi-value parameter on my report.

I haven't been able to track down the root cause, but it seems a little tweaking to the query that selects the options will usually fix it.

For instance, try adding a rtrim or ltrim around the field when selected in the query.

Before:

select distinct option from options

And After:

select distinct rtrim(option) as option from options

This seems to help in most cases.  If it doesn't, try performing a lower/upper on the string, or a replace on whitespaces.

I'll be interested to hear peoples feedback on this!

We've also got a few people that are blogging here on these subjects.

Please take a look, check out the forums, the blogs, and help us build this community!  If your interested in blogging on a Home Media subject there, let me know and we'll get you setup.

Export/Import MOSS Custom Profile Properties as XML
16. October 2007 04:01

An amazingly useful little tool to let you export and re-import those custom profile properties across your testing/dev servers.  Makes deployment much easier.

And you thought this was another sharepoint tool you'd have to write by hand?

Also, for managed and crawled properties, check here:

15. October 2007 06:23
Banners hanging this morning on the Redmond campus, Building 118, marking the launch of the Office Communications Server. Caught a picture on my phone through the rain.

Check out the Microsoft Unified Communication site to learn more about this awesome technology.
